Confronted with problems regarding manual handing in their production area with having to load and unload heavy rubber matting from a pallet on the floor, Alan Jackson, Packaging Manager for Cannon Rubber knew he had a problem that needed a solution.

Alan Jackson explained further “The loading and unloading of the heavy rubber matting which involved bending and stretching was taking its toll on the back of operators. We had spent several months having trials of various machines trying to resolve the problems that the operators were experiencing. We had felt frustrated by the standard of the machines offered as they failed to meet the standards that were required. I saw an advertisement in a safety magazine for the Kentruck range of equipment, I contacted Handling Equipment Sales Ltd and discussed the problems that we were experiencing.

A Kentruck GXE, electric high lift was put on demonstration, right from the start this proved to be extremely successful and we placed an order for one truck so that we could evaluate over a period of time, from the day it was delivered the operators have been so impressed with the truck that they have been claiming sole use of the machine.

An order was quickly placed for more machines, since these were put into operation we have seen a sharp fall in sickness and absenteeism due to bad or sprained backs. We have reduced the manual handling of the rubber matting, good access all around the machines improves the efficiency of the production operators when they are loading and moving products.

We feel that the Kentruck machines have proved to be very good value for money, they have surpassed all our requirements, reducing the need for overtime. Efficiency has increased during normal working hours which of course has increased productivity. I feel that the pay back time is excellent and the purchase of more machines will be ongoing as more production lines are introduced.
