Roundel Manufacturing

For furniture producer Roundel Manufacturing of Washington Tyne & Wear, the affordability of a standard model battery lift Work Positioner with fully automated working height adjustment has enabled the transformation of production operations to the benefit of both employee health and safety and productivity.

Roundel are using fourteen Kentruck GXN1200 'Giraffe' Work Positioners to replace the traditional practice of manual handling from floor-stacked in-process furniture panels outlawed by health & safety legislation because of its high risk to operators from constant stooping and twisting.

The GXN initially operates as a conventional pallet truck, enabling bulk panel stocks to be manoeuvred precisely to the workstation. Once the stack height has been manually positioned a simple setting of the electronic height adjuster, which inches up the stack as units are removed, is all that is required to present each panel at the optimum level for transfer. Every unit within the stack - which can contain up to several hundred panels - is as accessible as the first!

Overstretching is avoided and transfer for panel drilling, edging etc., is easier and faster.

TIME FOR EVALUATION

editorial-2 (50K)The purchase followed extensive on-site evaluation. The initial machine had a fork width of 520mm which has been enlarged to 685mm on three subsequent acquisitions to enhance stability. So successful have the GXN's been in the company's production area that Roundels Roy Ramshaw expects a fast return on the investment and is currently looking to extend the practice to Assembly activities.

It undoubtedly took someone with a sense of humour to name the Kentruck GXN1200 Work Positioner the Giraffe but then if it resembles a giraffe, which it does, makes light work of repetitive bending and stretching and makes feeding easier, then?

GXN1200 Models have a capacity of 1200kg and a lift height to 800mm. Lift speed is 12 and 7 seconds with and without load.
